Social media can be your greatest asset when it comes to building your network marketing business or home business. But it can also be your greatest enemy if you are doing these social media mistakes.
In this blog post, I’m going to talk about the 7 popular social media mistakes most network marketers make and how you can avoid them.
Mistake #1: Spamming
Spamming is one of the most popular social media mistakes most network marketers make.
This is embarrassing, but at one point, I was guilty of this.
Spamming simply means sending unsolicited emails or messages, blasting your audience with links about your business, tagging and adding people to a group page without their permission.
These types of activity on social media only raise resistance instead of enticing or creating curiosity.
If you are doing this, stop! Nobody wants to do business with spammers. Yuck!
Now, I’m not saying that you don’t promote your business at all on social media but do it with decency and stick to the 80:20 rule. Spend 80% of your time providing valuable content and 10% focusing on marketing your business or products.
And if you’re marketing your business, provide a high value link.
Here’s what I meant by providing a high value link:
It’s amazing how we’re able to help working parents earn some extra income from home in their spare time. Jane Doe used to work 8 hours a day, 6 days a week with long commute hours so she didn’t really have the extra time to spend with her family. Now, she’s finally able to take her family on vacation whenever they want. Learn more about Jane Doe’s story and how she made this happen. www.yourlink.com
Now, that looks a lot better! Make sure you highlight the benefits instead of the features.
Mistake #2: Branding Your Company Instead of Branding Yourself
Ever heard of the famous line, “People join people, not companies.”?
If someone joins you in your business, it’s because they see value in you as a potential business partner. They believe that by being associated with you or working with you closely, they’ll learn more and get more results.
Another huge social media mistake most network marketers make is they are constantly posting their network marketing opportunity on their social media pages. Other network marketers go far and beyond by using their company’s logo or brand as their profile picture or cover photo.
What that does is it raises resistance instead of creating curiosity simply because people don’t want to be sold.
You have to understand that there are thousands of opportunities out there and thousands of people who are in the same business and company as you.
How do you actually standout from your competition and be heard? Why would they join YOU?
Identify your target market’s problems and struggles and provide them the solution.
When you brand yourself instead of your company by constantly providing value, you’ll be more credible and visible and people will naturally come to you.
Mistake #3: Not Providing Value
Again, when all you do in social media is post about your business opportunity, products and your company, you become, as Bob Heilig would term it, an “infomercial” for your network marketing company and people wouldn’t want to “tune in” to your page again.
When you’re always providing your audience or your target market the information that are valuable to them, you create and maintain a strong bond, trust and credibility. When you give value, you position yourself as an expert, an authority, the go-to person in your niche.
How do we add value on social media? Solve problems or generally be helpful, provide tips and advice, resources that would benefit your audience, share lessons learned, and be transparent.
The list could go on but those are some of the ways to help you get started.
Mistake #4: Not Being Consistent
If you really wanna crush it on social media and build a large brand and following, you have to be consistently providing value at least daily.
It’s just like if you want to win in a competition, a weekly practice wouldn’t do good. You gotta be consistent.
Mistake #5: Not Engaging with Your Audience
It’s all about relationships!
When you interact and engage with your audience, you’re also creating a relationship with them and you’ll be able to position yourself to help them with whatever opportunity you may have in the future.
There are various ways to engage with your audience such as asking questions and encouraging them to share more their thoughts if it’s appropriate, thanking them for following you or liking your page, offering some type of contests, and including a little bit of humor.
Just be creative and be yourself.
Mistake #6: Not Using Tools and Systems to Create Leverage in Your Business
Social media is a great tool when it comes to building your network marketing business or any business for that matter.
But one of the social media mistakes most network marketers make is not using the tools and not having a system in place.
There’s gotta be a way for you to take your social media followers or fans where you can collect their information and add them to your list so that you’ll have the opportunity to follow-up with them and build a relationship.
Here’s how it looks like when you have a system in place:
You post a content on social media, somebody showed interest and clicked on your link, the link redirects to your page where it asked for your prospect’s information, they gave out their info because they’re interested and they’re now added to your list where you now have the opportunity to follow up with them.
Wouldn’t you love that? That’s leverage and automation right there, my friend!
You create a piece of content and it produces leads and sales for your business over and over again! That’s just awesome!
Now, how do you do that?
Simply create a capture page where there’s only 1 call-to-action, which is to give their name and email in exchange for your information (something that solves their problem) and have an email marketing system in place so you can connect with your prospects.
Mistake #7: Too Many Social Media but Not Enough Content
You don’t have to be on every social media platforms. As Gary Vaynerchuk said, “You just need to be in the right place regardless of the platform’s size.”
Find out where most of your audience are and focus on your top 3. Be there and be consistent in providing value. Aim to post daily or at the very, very least 2 to 3 times a week.
Remember, consistency and giving value is crucial in growing your business online. You shouldn't be making these mistakes when promoting your product or service on social media!Click To Tweet
